Top outdoor activities in Fredericksburg, Tx

Although our small town is known for its vineyards and wine tasting tours... there is actually a lot more to do.

While most of the wineries make for a beautiful outdoor activity, here is a quick list of non-wine things to do while still enjoying the sunshine and the beautiful surrounding hill country.

Enchanted Rock

This State Park offers camping, picnicking, 8.4 miles of hiking trails, a nature trail, rock climbing, cave exploration and wildlife. And stay after sunset to stargaze in the Dark Sky. Don’t miss this natural beauty if you’re in the area. Make sure to get your passes here in advance!

Lyndon B. Johnson State Park

The Lyndon B. Johnson State Park and Historic Site is a historically significant park in the heart of former President LBJ’s country home. Enjoy a self-guided tour of the World War I era Sauer-Beckmann Living History Farm, where you will find park rangers in period clothing tending to crops, farm animals and preparing meals. The park is also home to 1.2 miles of walking trails, bison, Texas longhorns, wildflowers, creeks and historic cabins.

Roam Ranch Tours

This is a one-of-a-kind experience you won’t forget. Tour a regenerative bison ranch in the heart of the Hill Country. Learn about their ecosystem restoration process, the bison, other animals on property and even take home some of their 100% grass-fed and pasture raised meat. Learn more about Roam Ranch and their events here.

Wildseed Farm

Visit the nation’s largest working wildflower farm. The farm has over 200 acres of wildflower fields at its Hill Country headquarters outside of Fredericksburg. View a real working wildflower farm and stay to shop at the Market Center where you can find gifts and home decor and Texas native plants and pottery.

Cross Mountain

Take an easy hike to the top of Cross Mountain for one of the best views of Fredericksburg. Only a mile from Main St and on the way to Enchanted Rock, this is an easy, pet-friendly hike on a rock trail winding around the hill. Go at sunrise or sunset for the most ideal setting!
